And then they get wiped out in a single chapter so our stock designated protagonist Artemis Knight can get a generic tragic backstory and a cool robot. And having seen everything he knows and cares about destroyed before his eyes, our hero immediately forgets about them and flies off to join some bunch of strangers that he’s never actually met before? Will they accept this outsider into their ranks despite their own secretive agenda? Of course they will. Was there any doubt, really?
